Building A Pool Before Summer – How Long Does It Take?

Getting a pool built before summer is a timeline many Queenslanders put on themselves. When that first scorcher of a day comes along, people who missed the bracket may be spotted pining over the block of land that should be filled with sparkling aqua. The Environ Pools team are here to help you get the most out of your brand new pool. To save you from heartbreak, we’ve put together this guide on when to book in your pool build and have it completed for those warmer summer months.

If you want to be relaxing by the pool during summer, it pays to start planning while things are still pretty brisk out. But that doesn’t mean there’s no hope for people who have left their booking later than usual.

THE BREAKDOWN

From when a contract is signed, a typical concrete pool will take approximately 3.5 months to complete, but a lot needs to be sorted before a builder is called. You’ll want to have a look at budgeting and planning first and then get all the council approvals you’ll need to commence the development.

Once the groundwork has been set up, it’s time to call the pool builder you decided on. From there, it will take about a whole season to get your new pool swim-ready.

MEETING A SUMMER DEADLINE – THE BEST TIME TO PLAN

If you want a concrete pool completed for summer, start doing your research in the 1st quarter of the year. Ideally, you will want your contract signed by the end of July to mid-September at the very latest to guarantee a spot for completion before Christmas. But that’s not a guarantee you’ll find a free spot that works for you.

The early bird gets the worm in this instance. Each pool builder has a different schedule, and some book out faster than others. Booking in earlier gives you more options to choose from.

OUR TYPICAL TIMELINE FOR A POOL PROJECT

The Environ Pools team has been building stunning inground concrete pools since the late 1980s. In that time, we’ve refined our work process into an easy to follow guide that helps our clients understand what to expect during the construction process. Each pool build is different, and the process may vary depending on the job’s specifications – but these points are a great resource to use for your planning.

  • Contract is signed.
  • Engineering and Certification (4-6 weeks).
  • The excavation stage commences after the certification is approved.
  • Steel stage begins within the same week as excavation.
  • The concrete stage commences 1-2 weeks after excavation.
  • The concrete must cure for a minimum of 4 weeks before tiles can be laid. During this time, we can install filtration systems.
  • Tiling is installed once the concrete has cured.
  • Fencing goes up as soon as possible after tiles (1-2 weeks).
  • Fence is inspected by certifiers.
  • Once approved, the Environ Pools team can lay a pebblecrete interior if the client has opted away from tiles.
  • The pool is filled with water within 48 hours after the final finishing has set (provided fencing has been installed).
  • The final stage is handover, which typically happens about 2 weeks after pebblecrete.
  • Take your first dive!

I MISSED THE DEADLINE – WHAT NOW?

So you desperately wanted to have your concrete pool completed by Christmas but feel like it’s too late? Don’t fret; good things come to those who wait. Instead of holding out for next year, there’s still plenty of warm weather to come, so call up today and organise a time that works for you with your chosen pool builder.

If your pool installation has to be pushed back, don’t feel like you’ve missed the boat. In fact, the swimming season can branch into May, especially with Queensland’s heat! Plus, with pool heating systems, your pool can be something you enjoy 365 days a year.

DON’T RUSH YOUR PERFECT POOL

Once your new pool has been installed, it will be a feature of your home forever. Take a moment to make sure you’re delighted with the product you’re getting. If you had your heart set on a pool builder who was booked out this season, don’t compromise with something you’re not happy with. After all, what’s a few extra months of waiting for the pool that’s going to bring you years and years of fun?
